Graciela Blancarte was born in 1972 in Durango, Dgo. Mexico and moved to Canada with her family in 2008,  she is now a proud Canadian citizen and lives in Kelowna B.C. Her love for art began as a child, growing up in a town rich in history, surrounded by music and artists. Self-taught, Chelis, as she is better known, began expressing herself through abstract paintings in 2009. Her work evokes nostalgia, frustration, joy, sadness. The colours and the light that she uses in her pieces are perhaps reminiscent of her native Durango, where the sky is bluer than anywhere else in the world.
